Prose and poetry from Creative Writing students at Leeds Trinity University features in an anthology being published by Indigo Dreams Publishing on Friday 26 June 2015.
Inspiration: a Space for Words is the second instalment of the three part series with award-winning publishers Indigo Dreams Publishing and Wordspace, the University's creative writing Imprint.
MA Creative Writing students Lynn Bauman-Milner and John Gledhill (pictured above) are the proud co-editors of Inspiration: a Space for Words; a collection of poetry and prose from students and alumni of Leeds Trinity University, along with pieces from guest authors who contribute at 'Wordspace', the University's regular Open Mic night in Horsforth.
Along with the assistance of well-established Writer, Poet and MA Creative Writing Programme Leader, Oz Hardwick, Bauman-Milner and Gledhill used the creation of the anthology as part of their MA 'Writing as a Profession' module assessment, giving them the experience of being both writers and editors.
Lynn Bauman-Milner commented: "I jumped at the chance to be part of this because I knew that the hands-on experience of editing an anthology would be invaluable. Not only did it help me to learn how to read critically, but it allowed me to edit and improve a piece without losing the author's tone of voice. It is definitely an excellent addition to my writing CV.
"Leeds Trinity University is well known for appointing staff who are leaders in their fields of excellence, so being able to learn from and be taught by a published author such as Oz Hardwick is inspirational. More so, my MA in Creative Writing has allowed me to find my niche in writing, along with the value of my skills. The course is everything that I could have hoped it to be and has given me the chance to work with world-class authors."
Oz Hardwick added:
"This is a wonderful showcase for the range of writing that's produced at Leeds Trinity, both within our academic courses and through other events such as our annual Writers' Festival. There's poetry, prose, humour, horror - a really eclectic mix, with the one common factor being the excellence of the writing."
Since its launch in September 2013, the MA has firmly established Leeds Trinity University's growing reputation as a centre for creative writing excellence. Throughout the course, students develop their identities as writers and learn how to make practical steps in getting their work seen and heard by a wider audience.
As a result, 14 students have had their work published in less than two years. Three current students – Hannah Stone, Maria Preston and Gill Lambert - collaborated on An After-Dinner's Sleep, the first collection to be published by Indigo Dreams Publishing under the Wordspace Imprint in February 2015. Hannah, Maria and Gill also feature in the Inspiration anthology, along with nine additional current MA Creative Writing students. Since graduating from the MA in December 2014, Alison Taft has also had her third novel published.
The third collection to be published by Indigo Dreams Publishing under the Wordspace Imprint will be Lynn Bauman-Milner's short story collection, Dark Doors, which will be released later this year.Visit the Indigo Dreams Publishing website
