Sports Science Summit 2018 announced by Leeds Trinity University and Australian Catholic University

Posted on 21 December 2017

Leeds Trinity University and the Australian Catholic University (ACU) are working together to launch the Sports Science Summit 2018, where leading academics from the UK, Europe and Australia will present their latest research.

The three-day conference, taking place at Leeds Trinity University from Monday 21 May to Wednesday 23 May 2018, will include big names in the world of sports science including: Professor Barry Drust (Liverpool John Moores University) discussing technology in soccer; Dr Paul Comfort (University of Salford) discussing strength and power profiling; Professor Emma Stevenson (Newcastle University) discussing nutrition and recovery; Dr Martin Buchheit (Paris Saint-Germain Football Club) discussing high intensity interval training; and Professor Susan Backhouse (Leeds Beckett University) discussing doping in sports.

The event will focus on key themes around high performance sport including performance enhancing strategies, training load, fatigue monitoring (including injury and recovery) and high performance systems and technology.

Dr Mark Russell, Reader in Performance Nutrition and Applied Exercise Physiology at Leeds Trinity University, said: "We're delighted to be working with the Australian Catholic University to launch the Sports Science Summit next year. The event builds on the successful delivery of previous sports conferences and symposia held here at Leeds Trinity. It will be a great opportunity for students, researchers and practitioners to come together to discuss the latest research in sports science."

The conference is the result of a partnership agreement signed in November between Leeds Trinity University and the Australian Catholic University, which recognises the collaboration between the universities.

Professor Justin Kemp, National Head of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University, said: "ACU has positioned itself as an international leader in high performance sport education. Our partnership with Leeds Trinity provides both institutions with exciting avenues to expand knowledge in sports science, with the goal to influence industry practice on an international scale. Bringing together world-class expertise in sports science from Leeds Trinity, ACU, and across Europe and the UK, is our launching pad to achieve this together over coming years."

Other speakers provisionally confirmed for the Sports Science Summit include: Professor Craig Twist (University of Chester), Dr Richard Johnston (Australian Catholic University), Dr Stuart Cormack (Australian Catholic University), Dr Raph Brandon (England and Wales Cricket Board), and Dr David Opar (Australian Catholic University).

The Summit is open to academics and practitioners working in sports science. Booking information will be available shortly. More information is available here, or contact Dr Mark Russell,
