Matthew Huggett Memorial Cricket Match
*This match was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday 12 June but due to the weather forecast has been postponed until Wednesday 19 June*
On Wednesday 19 June, two Leeds Trinity University teams will compete in a T20 Cricket match in memory of former Leeds Trinity Journalism student, Matthew Huggett.
Matthew, from Essex, sadly passed away in December 2013 when he was just 21. He was diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of spinal cancer, which prevented him from completing his Sports Journalism degree.
A mixed staff and alumni team, will be taking on the Leeds Trinity University Student Cricket Club to compete for The Matthew Huggett Memorial Cup.
This is the sixth year Leeds Trinity sports teams have competed against each other in the Matthew Huggett Memorial Cup. In 2014 and 2015 the Men's Rugby League team competed against the Men's Rugby Union team in a Cross Code game. In 2016, 2017 and 2018 our staff and alumni played our students in a T20 cricket match which the students have won on every occasion. Can the staff and alumni team take the trophy this year?
All money raised from the match will go to support Macmillan Cancer Support who both assisted and treated Matthew during his illness. All are very welcome to attend and support the teams, and charitable contributions can be made on the day.
