2012 17th March. LCVS Colloquium: Victorian Spiritualities.
This 1-day colloquium will explore Victorian Spiritualities from a wide-range of perspectives, including contributions on literature, art, ballet, and textiles. The day will cover a wide variety of religious traditions, including Catholicism, Anglicanism and the Oxford Movement, Spiritualism, the Russian Orthodox Church, Quakerism, Judaism, and Buddhism. The key-note speakers are the art historian Michaela Giebelhausen and the literary critic Elisabeth Jay.
2012 Disability and the Victorians. Residential Conference.
This 3-day interdisciplinary conference will examine the ways in which disability was conceptualised in the Victorian era, as well as what practices and regimes were used to manage it. The focus of the conference is to place Victorian work in dialogue with modern conceptions and practices so that there can be some productive dialogue for all stakeholders in this area.
