The Guardian’s Northern Editor, Martin Wainwright, will be speaking at Leeds Trinity on Wednesday (January 12, 2011).

He will be visiting as part of the Leeds Community News Hub project being undertaken here in association with Guardian Local and is the first of three speakers lined up for this month.

During his career Martin has written a number of books, including True North, and strongly believes national newspapers need northern writers (see this Leeds Guide interview).

More recently, he has been involved with the Guardian’s Leeds Cutswatch project.

He will be speaking in AG21 at 1pm on Wednesday and all are welcome.

On Wednesday, January 19 Simon Rogers, who is a news editor at the Guardian as well as editing its Datablog and Datastore, will be at Leeds Trinity (1pm, AG21). The Datastore is proof that stats don’t have to be dry – it has everything from the latest swine flu figures for all local authorities, to stats on the entire 2010-11 Ashes series, to the Top-selling 100 books of all time.

And on Wednesday, January 26 (1pm AG21), it will be the turn of Martin Belam, an information architect for the Guardian, to speak. If you want to find out more about information architecture, website design, journalism and digital media, you can read Martin’s blog.

It is hoped the Hub will help to create better links between Leeds Trinity and local community organisations as well as providing a focus for people and groups who want to get more involved in the local news agenda.
