The first year will lay the foundations for the rest of your degree programme. The focus will be on the transition to degree level study, so that you gain the skills and knowledge to prepare you for your future as a student and as a graduate employee in your chosen field. You will cover the key areas of sport management, organisational theory, sport and culture, sport and the media and the history of modern sport. Each module will include: study skills to help you with your academic life such as writing and presenting skills; knowledge and understanding of the subjects from a multi-disciplinary perspective as well as research skills to prepare you for both academic life and your future career. Your first year will end with two weeks of professional placement preparation activities followed by five weeks in the workplace.
In your second year your knowledge will continue to develop further in areas such as Event and People management, research methods and scientific principles of sport. You will also learn about sport and globalisation, and have the opportunity to select a module with a year-long volunteering opportunity or a placement module with a block of six weeks in the workplace at the end of the year. An exciting aspect of this year is having the opportunity to select a module of your choice, from a range which relate to different career paths most suited to your interests.
In your third year the core interdisciplinary modules will incorporate the breadth and depth of the knowledge you have gained so far. You will feel confident therefore to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding in an applied manner. This is the year where you are able to really flourish in your interests, by undertaking a substantial research project as part of the Dissertation module in a topic aligned with your enjoyment and your career aspirations. You will also have the option to select two further modules relating to different career paths most suited to you, for example International Management, Financial Reporting, and Leisure Management. For those who wish to go onto postgraduate study or teacher training your degree programme will have prepared you for your application.
