Westerton Primary School Direct Alliance

Leeds Trinity University > Westerton Primary School Direct Alliance

There can be no substitute for beginning your teaching career than initial teacher training as part of a School Direct Alliance.

Westerton School Direct Partnership is offering a school-based PGCE programme in collaboration with Leeds Trinity University. We are offering two programmes for 2017/18:
Primary 3-7 (UCAS Course Code 328W)
Primary 5-11 (UCAS Course Code 328X)

Why train with us?

There can be no substitute for beginning your teaching career than initial teacher training as part of a School Direct Partnership. Westerton School Direct Partnership, led by Westerton Primary Academy, provides great places to train to teach and we believe the partnership of strong academic grounding and highly effective practical contexts is the key to success. The schools within the Partnership are committed to joint collaborative working and have a long history of delivering successful school based teacher training.

The Westerton School Direct Programme is expanding and is a Partnership of seven primary schools closely affiliated with Leeds Trinity University. Other schools in the Partnership are Blackgates Primary School, East Ardsley Primary Academy, Hill Top Primary Academy, Peel Park Primary School, Salterlee Primary School and Thorner Church of England Primary School. The schools within the Partnership offer diversity, enabling the trainees to engage in more than one school in the partnership. Candidates should be aware that whilst a place within the Partnership may be offered, the decision as to which school will be the home school may be confirmed at a later date.

The schools within the Partnership all see School Direct as the best way to develop future teachers. They are all committed to their trainees' progress and you will be chosen by the schools who will invest in you as an integral and important member of their staff team. Staff within the Partnership are our most valuable resource. Teachers are excellent practitioners and are keen to share professional skills, knowledge and practice with teachers of the future.

All trainees who successfully complete the School Direct course with us will be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status and will have the opportunity to gain a PGCE at Masters Level 7. This is an excellent springboard into the profession. The university has a long history of initial teacher education and we have worked together closely to develop a high quality programme based on experience and a commitment to a high level of support for trainees.
