Dixons Academies Trust has a long history of teacher training. Within the group is a former Specialist Training School with a National reputation for Innovative Teacher Training – Dixons City Academy – and the first secondary Free School in the country to be judged as outstanding – Dixons Trinity Academy.
The Trust now trains on average 50 secondary student teachers every year. Dixons Academies Trust
delivers professional Secondary School Teacher Training for the 11-16 years age range, with opportunities to develop particular interests at Key Stage 3, 4 or Advanced Level. You will gain a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Level 6 with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) on successful completion, with the choice to study for Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Level 7 with two additional modules.
Subjects available: Places for the School Direct programme are available on the following subjects –
Art & Design, Computer Science, Design & Technology (Resistant Materials/Product Design), Religious Education (RE), Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), Mathematics, History, English, Modern Foreign Languages, Geography, Music, Physical Education (PE) and Drama.
Course modelAs a distance partnering school with Leeds Trinity, you will be school-based and taught one day a week by university academic staff.
GCSEs in English, Maths and Science at grade C or above.
Passed professional skills test for teacher trainees available at
the www.education.org.uk website
A degree in any national curriculum or relevant subject at 2:2 or above.
N.B. Third class degrees will be considered if relevant school-based voluntary or paid work experience has been gained.

Fees and finance
Financial support is available throughout your training, with opportunities to receive a tax-free bursary of up to £30,000 from the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL). The tuition fee is £9,000 a year for postgraduate study with Leeds Trinity.
