In your first year, the programme will give you the opportunity to explore the key functional areas of business operations and applied economics. Your business modules will include an introduction to management and organisational behaviour, and fundamental marketing theory and practice, alongside the study of management and financial accounting. These modules will be complemented by the study of micro and macro-economic theory and principles, in preparation for your first work placement experience.
In your second year, you will learn how to apply managerial and leadership models in your future professional practice, and explore the fundamentals of financial management and control. You will also study commercial and financial UK and EU law that directly affect the legal structure and operation of businesses, whilst building your knowledge of and skills in the application of more advanced micro and macro-economic theory in commerce and industry. A key element of work in your second year will be the development of research techniques for use in the third year research project, as well as preparing for a second work placement experience at the end of the year.
In the third year you will explore business and management strategy and international economics in two modules designed to consolidate your knowledge of the global economy and the global marketplace. Furthermore, the third year programme is specifically designed to offer you the opportunity to specialise in those areas you feel reflect your own academic interests and which will best prepare you for your future career. As a result, you will have the chance to select from a range of optional modules, which include subject areas such as business sustainability, environmental economics, economics of development, financial markets and institutions, as well as more specialised business modules in project management, leadership, international marketing and enterprise. You will also have the opportunity to complete a research project or a work-based project that will directly enhance your career prospects, as well as provide a solid foundation for postgraduate professional training.
