This work-based learning Level 6 Top-Up degree is designed to be undertaken on completion of a foundation degree, or other Level 5 qualification, in an area related to education.

This programme is ideal preparation for those who may wish to progress towards a teaching qualification, or take on more responsibility in their educational setting; plus progression to academic postgraduate education.

You will have the opportunity to develop subject expertise, while engaging with current debate and professional practice. You will be introduced to new concepts and higher order skills such as synthesis and critical evaluation.

The course runs every Thursday 9-5 for full-time students and a half day (Thursday) for part-time students.

Course Information

Topic areas include support and inclusion of those with individual needs, education’s role in the multi-agency workforce, teaching skills, learning strategies and project work.

You will develop reflective practitioner skills and the application of theory to practice when you undertake a range of work-based activities including workplace analysis in terms of practices and models of management, teamwork, teaching and learning.

You will be introduced to the key issues related to ethical practice and how to reflect critically on the work place in a professional fashion. It is hoped, although not compulsory, that you will identify a work place mentor who could support your studies and research.

A variety of assessment methods are used, matched to the learning outcomes for the programme, to enable students to demonstrate the full range of knowledge and skills that they have developed.​​ 
Successful completion of a foundation degree in a relevant area or equivalent Level 5 qualification.  Other requirements: For the old GCSE system we require grade C or above and for the new GCSE grading system we will accept grade 4 or higher in English Language (or accepted L2 equivalent).​​​​

UK & EU Students:

Tuition fees cost £9,250 a year for this course in 2018-19. Part-time tuition fees would be pro-rated accordingly to the number of credits you're studying. Tuition fees may rise with inflation in future years. Find out more

​We advise students to budget for the following in addition to annual tuition fees:

  • Recommended and required reading lists will be provided at the start of your course. All the books and e-books are available from our Library to borrow but you may choose to purchase your own. We recommend £390* as an average annual budget for learning resources if you decide this is for you. *This figure is based on the Department of Work and Pensions course costs allowance 2015
  • The University provides students with a £6 printing credit each academic year which can be topped up either on campus or online
