Collaborative Partnerships
Leeds Trinity University are a key partner of HEART and proactively support collaborative activities of the twelve strong partnership. HEART has a mission to work in partnership to improve access to, and achievement in, Higher Education to enhance individual and economic development.
Leeds Trinity University therefore support collaborative initiatives aimed at improving access for those from under-represented groups, responding to business needs and supporting the Leeds City Region in meeting their goals for economic development. Leeds Trinity University has maintained a strong focus on widening participation in higher education and this is reflected in our Strategic Plan, and Access Agreement.
Mission, Management and Culture
Widening participation at Leeds Trinity University is about encouraging and
supporting every individual to reach their full potential. That is why we don't just
consider participation but we believe in empowering all students with the skills and
knowledge that prepare them for employment and life. For us, widening participation
is about removing any barriers and allowing every learner to progress. This is at the
heart of Leeds Trinity University’s vision:
“We will empower individuals, enabling them to contribute to their communities as
productive, enterprising and creative citizens of the world.”

Our approach to widening participation is based upon the following characteristics:
a. A whole institution approach;
b. A focus upon the individual learner;
c. The full student lifecycle including recruitment, retention, the student
experience through to graduation and beyond;
d. Employer engagement – enabling more adults to enter higher education and
support progress into employment;
e. Community engagement – formal partnerships with schools and colleges and
involvement with Trusts and Academies;
f. Targeting with emphasis on low socio economic groups;
g. Active participation in West Yorkshire, West Yorkshire Life Long;
H. Learning Network (WYLLN), Higher Education Access, Rewarding Transforming (HEART), Higher Education Liaison Officers’ Association (HELOA).
