Our Vision
Leeds Trinity University has maintained a strong focus on widening participation in higher education and this is reflected in our Strategic Plan, and Access Agreement.

Mission, Management and Culture

Widening participation at Leeds Trinity University is about encouraging and

supporting every individual to reach their full potential. That is why we don't just

consider participation but we believe in empowering all students with the skills and

knowledge that prepare them for employment and life. For us, widening participation

is about removing any barriers and allowing every learner to progress. This is at the

heart of Leeds Trinity University’s vision:

“We will empower individuals, enabling them to contribute to their communities as

productive, enterprising and creative citizens of the world.”

(Our Vision: Strategic Plan 2007-2012)

Our approach to widening participation is based upon the following characteristics:

a. A whole institution approach;

b. A focus upon the individual learner;

c. The full student lifecycle including recruitment, retention, the student

experience through to graduation and beyond;

d. Employer engagement – enabling more adults to enter higher education and

support progress into employment;

e. Community engagement – formal partnerships with schools and colleges and

involvement with Trusts and Academies;

f. Targeting with emphasis on low socio economic groups;

g. Active participation in West Yorkshire, West Yorkshire Life Long;

H. Learning Network (WYLLN), Higher Education Access, Rewarding Transforming (HEART), Higher Education Liaison Officers’ Association (HELOA).
