Production and Travel Co-ordinator, Sky Sports
After graduating, I worked as a Production Co-ordinator for the Rugby Union department at Sky Sports. I'm primarily involved in the logistical side of outside broadcasts. I book catering, freelance crew, etc, and I also arrange transport and accommodation for all talent and production crew. We broadcast the Rugby Union from all over Europe, so there's a fair bit of international travel too. There is a lot to arrange, so it's a busy role, but it's one that I enjoy very much.
There was a real community spirit at Leeds Trinity. The size of the campus meant that it was more personal. The lecturers and support staff were approachable, and they always made themselves available for a coffee and a chat. I undertook a variety of work placements during my time at Leeds Trinity in order to get a good understanding of the whole of the media industry. I worked at local newspapers, independent TV production companies, as well as spending time with my local Rugby League club.
I was also part of a fantastic group of students who worked on the university television show. A few friends from the year above me set up a 30-minute magazine programme called, OnTASC. It covered university news, student issues and entertainment. We met regularly to discuss ideas and shoot 'as live' in the television studio once or twice a month. It was great fun to and it gave all of us the perfect opportunity to practice the different roles involved in television production.
Leeds Trinity University gave me the opportunities to broaden my skillset. The facilities that Leeds Trinity offered were extremely beneficial in helping me to gain practical experience. The staff were willing to share their experience and contacts with the students, enabling me to get the experience required for a role like this.
